AKC013: The St. Paul Island Run
Everyday our pilots make their way out to Saint Paul Island (PASN) via
King Salmon (PAKN). Our main Cargo on this run is fish and crab from both
Saint Paul and King Salmon but as we're the only airline serving Saint Paul
on a daily basis with Cargo aircraft.
On our outbound leg, we fly to King Salmon (PAKN) to drop off a small
amount of cargo for the local residents and businesses. From King Salmon
we then fly vital supplies to St. Paul Island (PASN). These include the
usual cargo of mail, food and fuel but also supplies for the local crab
fishermen, medical supplies boat maintenence and esssential supplies and
resources for the TDX Power wind power generator.
From St. Paul Island (PASN) we pick up supplies for TDX Power and a huge
amount of crab for the global market. Pilot's then fly to King Salmon (PAKN)
to pick up fish, particularly salmon for the global market. Alaskan crab
and salmon is extremely expensive so pilot's are asked to treat their loads
carefully, making soft landings and keeping damage to a minimum.
