Attention, all aviators
Welcome to WestWind Airlines - a community where aviation enthusiasts become professional airline pilots, virtually! To us, this isn't just a game; it's a thrilling adventure, and a gateway to fulfilling your sky-high dreams.
WestWind Airlines exists in the hearts and minds of its employees; We are a group dedicated to promoting virtual aviation and inspiring the next generation of virtual and real-world pilots.
Our Journey
Discover how it all began with the epic tale of our founder, Sean "Crash" Reilly. Head over to the History of WestWind for the full story:
The August 1998 issue of Full Throttle contained an article entitled "Virtual Airlines 101: A Crash Course"
written by WestWind's Sean "Crash" Reilly. It detailed what a virtual airline
is, how one operates, what to look for in choosing a VA to fly for, etc. The article
contained several screen shots from our web site plus graphics of our aircraft.
The WestWind Experience
You will be joining an airline with a fleet that's as diverse as your ambitions, supported by dedicated managers and a squadron of experienced virtual and real-world pilots who share your passion for the skies. At WestWind, we take virtual piloting seriously, and we're looking for committed individuals ready to soar the online or offline skies with us.
Beyond Passenger Flights
WestWind pilots enjoy a variety of flying experiences, including monthly charter flights and opportunities with our cargo division, WestWind Cargo. Add more flight time to your logbook and experience something new every month.
Commitment
To be part of our elite team, you'll need to dedicate at least one flight a month to flying for WestWind. It's a very small investment of time for the vast skies you will explore, and we are guessing that you will voluntarily put in many more hours of challenging flights.
How to Get Onboard
Ready to embark on your journey? Here are the prerequisites
Training & Operations
Your first stop is the WestWind Training Center, where you'll complete a Check Flight with our Virtual Check Captain. Once you ace this, submit your Type Rating Application Form and get ready to choose your hub. You'll be cleared for takeoff on a variety of routes.
Career Progression
Just like in the real world, there is a clear path for advancement. Start as a Category I pilot, flying the Canadair CRJ-200/700 or other similar aircraft, and work your way up according to our Pilot Promotion Scale. If you have had prior experience with another Virtual Airline, we can accept up to 150 hours of time to jump start your career with us. To stay active, make sure you log at least one hour per month and file a Pilot Report (PIREP) via our dispatch page. This keeps you on the Active Pilot Roster and ensures your virtual wings stay sharp.
